Race Report:

A wet, muddy and challenging course tested everyone. I felt strong throughout the race, recovered well afterwards, and followed it with an easy 16 km recovery run around Lake Wendouree the next morning. This was another positive step in my preparation for the World Multisport Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Why This Race Mattered

This race was an important confidence builder on a tough, muddy course. Date: 11th July 2026

Event: Athletics Victoria XCR Series

Distance: 10 km Cross Country

Location: Bundoora Park, Victoria

Time: 47:46

Overall Position: 17th

Bundoora Park provided a challenging 10 km cross-country course with a series of short, punchy hills that demanded consistent effort throughout the race.

I settled into a comfortable rhythm early and focused on maintaining a steady effort rather than chasing pace. The hills certainly tested the legs, but I stayed positive, finished strongly, and crossed the line in 47 minutes and 46 seconds, finishing 17th in 60plus age group.

The most pleasing part of the weekend came after the race. Recovery was excellent, and the following day I comfortably completed an 18 km easy Zone 1 run. That was a great sign that my endurance base and recovery are continuing to improve as I prepare to represent Australia at the 2026 World Multisport Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Key Takeaway

The strongest positive from this race wasn’t just the finishing timeβ€”it was the recovery. Being able to complete an 18 km Zone 1 run the following day confirmed that my endurance base is continuing to improve, giving me confidence that my preparation for the World Multisport Championships in Abu Dhabi is on track.
